This fast-paced, gritty and outstanding debut kept me guessing from beginning to beyond the end. Underbelly is simply extraordinary and I can't rate it highly enough; 5 stars just doesn't do it justice! A very highly recommended read. This was such a great book! Grabs your interest from page one and keeps on going. Great characters and love the interaction between them. Flows nicely and the pages just keep on turning! I loved this book. It is an intruiging read, which is fast paced with varied twists and turns yet a continuity that made me turn the next page. Underbelly is a view of the "seedy side" you won't want to miss but never want to experience. The characters were developed so gently and creatively I almost felt that I knew them. In an age where murder mysteries are becoming mundane, this book rises to the top. No two ways about it: Karen is a hell of a writer. I found myself enamored with her prose throughout. The characters feel real, and the settings set the senses alight. I could sing Underbelly praises from the rooftops, but that wouldn't be adequate! |
I loved the feel of this book! Dark, gritty, mysterious and real! And it grabbed me from the very first page. This writer has an amazing way of making the reader literally see the action unfold before their eyes. The smells, the macabre atmosphere of the underbelly, the blood-curdling tension when you know the strike is coming! All remarkably rendered. I loved this book. The way the author holds the reader's interest and kept the mystery and suspense at a high level was amazing. I highly recommend this book! Great read from this new author. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Good character development, great look at the personal side of life in law enforcement and the toll it takes on relationships. I loved the crumbs of clues the author gave as to who the kilelr was, right from the beginning. I took the bait early on and believed right up until it was revealed that the killer was someone else. Great twist, and strong conclusions. Leaves us wanting more from her next book. I see a series with this strong lead character, and look forward to many more adventures. |
